![]() ![]() This is a problem you face with or without a solar. The only real advantage of a battery backup is having power during a blackout. Unfortunately, batteries are the last piece of solar technology that has some catching up to do (purely from a pricing point of view). The reason I got into the industry was the fiscal viability of the program. We DO offer batteries, but I tend to do the same thing in talking people out of it. It just sits on a trickle charger until it's needed so I know I always have some power immediately available. Secondly, I have a heavy duty battery charger that I can hook up to my generator, so if the power is off all day I can recharge my batteries and not have to worry about the generator running all night and annoying neighbors, being stolen etc. There are a couple benefits to this for me.Sometimes our power will go out for an hour or two and then come back on, so I can switch on the inverter and have power back in under 3 minutes compared to dragging out the generator, running the power line back to the transfer switch etc. I can (and have) run critical things like fridge, freezer, furnace and lighting for 8-10 hours off this alone. I have a manual transfer switch that I can plug my generator into, but I also have a bank of 3 125AH AGM batteries hooked up to a 3000 watt inverter that I can plug into the manual transfer switch as well. ![]() However I made my own battery backup system. Having had solar in the PNW for 10 years, I can tell you that the times of year we are most likely to lose power are also the times of the year that we are least likely to have good solar production. ![]() See - įind the latest Help Wanted feature post HERE which includes links to several industry job listing sites Searchable by country, state, and technology. * Clean Energy Training Directory - Training providers, workshops, undergraduate degree programs, graduate programs, and more.
